Oatley R.S.L. GymSports

Oatley RSL provides a wide variety of gymnastic sports and participation levels ranging from novice through to competitive levels.

 

Kindergym Classes – Boys and Girls

These classes are available for children aged between 3-5 years. Children who participate in these classes need to be able to follow simple instructions and be willing to participate in a group situation without their parents.

Children are given the opportunity to use the trampoline, beams, bars, mini trampoline, and develop skills on the floor. This class is an enjoyable introduction to the basic elements in a gymnastics program. 

Children who complete this program and wish to develop their skills further are invited to attend the recreational programs offered to boys and girls separately.

Girls Gym

Card classes - Girls

These classes are open to girls between the ages of 5- 13 years

Children participate in a program that develops their skill level on each apparatus whilst in a non-threatening environment. There is a system of progression within the classes and children receive a certificate on attainment of each level. 

Girls who have completed all levels, or have reached the highest level (card 6) are then invited to attend either the BLACK, SILVER, GOLD (BSG) program or the SENIOR GYM FUN program.  

Black, Silver, Gold (BSG) – Girls

This program is offered to girls who have completed the requirements of the recreational card program and wish to continue in the sport.

Girls progress through a program of skills that builds on prior learning; certificates are awarded at the conclusion of each level (black, silver and gold).   

Advanced Recreation – Girls

This class is offered to girls who are not competing in the levels stream but wish to maintain and improve their skill level in a non-threatening, safe and relaxed environment.

The children in this class have completed the recreational stream, so they have attained a satisfactory level of skill to participate in the activities provided.

Children will be given the opportunity to compete in the Invitational RSL Gymnastics competition held later in the year.

Boys Gym

Card classes - Recreational

These classes are open to boys between the ages of 5- 13 years.

Children participate in a program that develops their skill level on each apparatus whilst in a non-threatening environment. There is a system of progression within the classes and children receive a certificate on attainment of each level. 

Boys who have completed all levels, or have reached the highest level (Lions) are then invited to attend either the Boys Development Squad or the SENIOR GYM FUN program.

Senior Gym Fun - Recreational

This class is offered to older boys who have no wish to compete in the levels stream but wish to maintain and improve their skill level in a non-threatening, safe and relaxed environment.

Many of the children in this class have completed the recreational stream, so they have attained a satisfactory level of skill to participate in the activities provided. Children will also be introduced to Acrobatics and Trampolining and Tumbling skills. 

Development Squad – Competition

Boys are invited to participate in this class in a variety of circumstances. They may be identified by coaches in the recreational stream, or have satisfied the requirements following a selection trial, or may have progressed from the recreational program discussed earlier. 

The boys undertake a skill-based program, which will develop them for participation in MAG (Men’s Artistic Gymnastics) levels, there is also a strength, flexibility and conditioning component to this class. 

Levels Class – Competition

This class offers competitive MAG (Men’s Artistic Gymnastics) levels 1-3. Competitions may be at interclub, regional or state level. Children wishing to progress beyond Level 3 will be referred on to club’s who can provide that service. 

Athletes participate in a skill-based program, which will prepare them for competition in MAG levels, there is also strength, flexibility and conditioning component to this class.

Boys are invited /selected to participate in this class based on their level of ability. The gymnasts may be chosen from recreational classes, but are usually selected from the pool of gymnasts in the development squad.

Competitive athletes are required to do strength and flexibility training at home as well as attend extra training sessions during the competition season.

Sport Aerobics

Novice Class - Recreational Boys and Girls

This class is open to younger children aged between 5 –10 years who are not ready to compete in the levels stream but wish to become involved in a new discipline in an exciting, non-threatening, safe and relaxed environment.

Children progress through the skill-based ‘Aerokid’ program, which culminates in bronze, silver and gold awards as they attain each level.

Children who reach the gold award level can progress to the Intermediate class. 

 

Intermediate Class – Boys and Girls

This class caters for athletes aged 11-13 years who have mastered the basic skills covered in the Novice class.

The focus is on skill development and basic choreography and an introduction to the Levels program progressing towards Level 1 routine and competitions

Athletes participating in this class may be invited to compete at invitational and state competitions.

Competitive athletes are required to do strength and flexibility training at home as well as attend extra training sessions during the competition season. 

Advanced Class – Competition Boys and Girls

This is a competitive class, which caters for athletes aged 14 yrs - adult who have completed both the Novice and Intermediate programs or those who have been invited to attend from other streams.

Athletes are required to attend a number of competitions during the year and purchase competition attire and pay entry fees for all competitions.

Competitive athletes are required to do strength and flexibility training at home as well as attend extra training sessions during the competition season.

Trampoline Sports

Novice – Recreational Boys and Girls

Children who participate in this class are aged between 5 –10 years. They may be referred by Trampoline Sports NSW, other clubs, or may chose to participate because they have a preference for this activity. The class provides the opportunity to use the Trampoline, Double Minitramp, Single Minitramp and Floor tumbling.

Children participate in a program that develops their skill level on each apparatus whilst in a non - threatening environment. There is a system of progression within the class and children receive a certificate on completion of each level.

Intermediate – Boys and Girls

Children who participate in this class have already satisfied most of the requirements of the Novice class i.e. children have reached the required level of skill. They may graduate into this class from the Novice class or be selected/ invited by the coach of another class to participate.

The opportunity to participate in competitions is also available in this class. Competitions will mostly be at interclub level except for RSL State Championships.

Advanced Class – Competition Boys and Girls

This class offers competitive Trampoline Sports to children who have reached the level of skill required (Grade 3+). Competitions may be at interclub, regional, state, or National level.

It is a requirement of the participants that they attend a number of competitions each year including the RSL State Championships.

The class offers skill development on each of the competitive apparatus; there is also a strength, flexibility and conditioning component to this class.
